E-Commerce Google Ads Management | ROAS-Focused

3 min read18 August 2026

Google Ads management for e-commerce works differently from service businesses. Conversion value matters more than conversion count, the product feed is nearly half the campaign, and which product you push with the same budget changes profit directly.

Feed quality is half the campaign

Google Shopping and Performance Max campaigns are fed by the product feed. If title, category, brand, GTIN and image fields are incomplete, the product appears in fewer searches — no matter how good the campaign settings are.

One of the highest-return changes is bringing product titles closer to how people actually search. Whatever word the customer uses to look for the product should appear in the title, not your internal catalogue code. Clearing approval errors in Merchant Center matters just as much: a disapproved product never serves, and it happens silently.

Value, not conversion count

In e-commerce not every sale carries the same value. A bidding strategy targeting conversion count can sell many cheap items and neglect expensive ones; revenue looks fine while profit falls.

That is why I use value-based bidding and bring the reported conversion value closer to real value. Ideally the value sent accounts for margin too: of two products producing the same revenue, the higher-margin one should look more valuable to the algorithm. This depends on conversion measurement being configured correctly.

The reality of returns and stock

Two frequently skipped items in measurement are return rate and stock status. Evaluating a high-return category on revenue alone makes it look profitable while it actually loses money. Advertising products that are out of stock is direct waste; when feed and stock fall out of sync, this can go unnoticed for months.

Cart abandonment and existing customers

People who add to cart without buying are e-commerce’s most valuable remarketing audience. In a remarketing campaign this group is kept separate and targeted with its own message.

Existing customers should be separated too: in a campaign aimed at acquiring new customers, spending on people who already bought is a common source of loss. Google Ads supports this distinction, but it is not configured by default.

The platform side

Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom stack — whichever it is, the measurement layer has to be built correctly. If the site is slow, ad performance drops with it; where needed, WordPress speed optimisation is handled as separate work.

How do we start? First I audit your feed and measurement setup — disapproved products, missing fields, incorrect conversion values. I send the findings in priority order in writing. You can reach me from the contact page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I set my target ROAS?

It is calculated backwards from your margin: the lower your margin, the higher the target ROAS has to be. Industry averages floating around are meaningless without knowing your own cost structure.

Should all products sit in one campaign?

No. Product groups with different margins, price ranges and conversion behaviour should be handled separately; otherwise budget drifts to the most-clicked but least-profitable group.

Does it make sense for a small shop?

It can, even with a small catalogue, but the budget has to generate enough data to teach the algorithm. With a very narrow catalogue, starting on Search to accumulate data is the healthier path.

WHAT YOU CAN ASK FOR

How do I work?
Work-hour packages

Tell me about your website and what you need on WhatsApp or by phone; we agree on a work block of somewhere between 5 and 40 hours and I start doing what is needed. What you get is not a calendar window — it is net working hours spent directly on your business. I can use 40 hours working three days straight, or deliberately spread it out and finish it over a year — whatever the work calls for. I do not spend my time estimating how long something will take, I spend it doing the work; every hour I spend has a lasting result on your site. We keep going for as long as you find it useful.

WORK BLOCKS

Why not monthly?
Is 40 hours a week?

On a fixed monthly fee both sides are watching the wrong thing: you watch a fixed cost, the other side watches how many more contracts like this they can line up. Working by the hour puts us both in front of the same thing — the real value of the work that got done. I know not having an upfront answer to "how much will this cost in total?" is the natural cost of this model. But instead of paying a fixed fee for months to a setup that is not producing results, you only pay for the qualified time spent on your work — and you see exactly where that time went, start to finish. That is why my clients keep coming back.
