Day-to-day tasks swallow people whole, and the urgent always pushes the important aside. The Owner does not let that happen: every day she pulls me back to work that serves my long-term goals.
KEEPER OF MEMORYTriage
Throughout the day I send it everything: a post, a link, a half-formed idea. Triage looks at each one, distils the essence and files what lasts into our long-term memory.
It tidies up behind me, throwing out the noise and folding what matters into the working system. Like an emergency-room doctor, it decides what stays.
KAIZENThe Brain
The Brain has no job, on purpose. It hates sitting idle: it keeps looking for work, spots something in the system that could be better and comes to me asking, “Shall I do this?”
This is what the Japanese call kaizen: a little better, every single day.
DELETION EXPERTUndertaker
The agent who thinks hard about what should be deleted. It finds what can go and brings it to me as a list.
No file dies without passing through its hands first. This is its trade: it knows best what lives on and what gets laid to rest.
