Hotel Booking Software: A Guide to the Brands

4 min read20 August 2026

“Hotel software” sounds like one thing, but there are three connected systems. Comparing brands without knowing which does what is the fastest route to buying the wrong product.

Three concepts first

PMS (property management system). The hotel’s control centre: room status, check-in and check-out, folios, housekeeping, reports. This is the screen reception keeps open all day.

Channel manager. The layer that syncs rates and availability across Booking, Expedia, Airbnb and the rest. It’s what automatically reduces inventory everywhere when a booking arrives from one channel. Without it, overbooking is a matter of time.

Booking engine. The module that lets you take commission-free bookings on your own site. If you’re advertising, this is the piece that matters most — it’s the only way to keep the guest your ads paid for from ending up on an OTA.

Some brands provide all three; others specialise in one and integrate with the rest. That’s where the distinction starts.

All-in-one platforms

Cloudbeds — bundles PMS, channel manager, booking engine and revenue tools into one product. It holds Booking.com Premier Connectivity Partner status and took HotelTechReport’s channel management honours from 2021 through 2025. Common among small and mid-sized properties.

Mews — strong on automation and a modern interface. Worth noting: it commonly routes distribution through a third-party connection such as SiteMinder, which means one more vendor relationship and one more point where rate or availability updates can lag.

RoomRaccoon — a comparable integrated alternative, named often for small and boutique properties.

Channel management specialists

SiteMinder — connects to 450+ booking channels including GDS, and integrates with major PMS platforms such as Opera, Mews and protel. It has no PMS of its own; sensible if you want to keep your current PMS and strengthen distribution.

Little Hotelier — SiteMinder’s product for small properties, combining channel manager and booking engine.

RateGain — appears more on the enterprise and chain side.

Enterprise and chains

Oracle Hospitality OPERA and protel are the classic choices for large and chain properties. Powerful but heavy: setup, training and maintenance costs are usually out of proportion for a small property.

Options based in Türkiye

The practical advantage of local software is language support and local compliance: Turkish-language support, local SMS infrastructure, and country-specific legal and accounting requirements.

Elektraweb — PMS and channel management modules are integrated; managing the whole operation from one screen and one database is what it leads with.

HotelRunner — a platform that covers website/CMS and revenue management alongside the PMS.

Reseliva — a known name on the channel manager and booking engine side; when a booking arrives on one channel it updates inventory on the others automatically.

Suitero and HMS — among the local options aimed at small and mid-sized properties.

Which ones I actually work with

The above is the map of the market. These are the ones I come across most and work with comfortably:

In Türkiye, Elektraweb and HotelRunner. Both combine PMS and channel management, and neither causes trouble on Turkish-language support or local requirements. Both can be worked with for ad connection and measurement setup.

Internationally, SiteMinder. For properties selling across many foreign channels, channel breadth is what decides it, and SiteMinder is the most established option on that side. If you want to strengthen distribution without replacing your current PMS, this is the one.

This isn’t a “the others are bad” list — Cloudbeds and Mews are good products too. I’m only saying what I’ve worked with; something else may suit your property better.

How to choose — three questions

How many rooms? For 10-30 rooms an enterprise PMS is unnecessary; an integrated or local product is enough. At 100+ rooms with multiple departments the calculation changes.

Do you already have a PMS that works? If you do and you’re happy with it, add a channel manager rather than replacing everything — a far smaller intervention.

Are you going to advertise? If yes, the quality of the booking engine becomes more important than the other two. A slow engine, or one with too many steps, is where the ad budget disappears.

⚠️ One disclosure: I am not a reseller or partner for any of these and take no commission. The above is to explain what each product does; the final choice depends on your rooms, your team and your budget.

What happens after setup is my work. Whatever engine you use, getting measurement right and connecting advertising to it correctly is a separate job — see conversion tracking and hotel ads. Get in touch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I manage without a channel manager?

If you sell on one channel, yes. If you sell the same room on Booking and Airbnb, no — you will hit a double booking eventually.

Can I buy a booking engine on its own?

You can, but if it doesn’t talk to your PMS and channel manager you’ll be updating availability by hand. Integrated setups create far less work in practice.

Local or international — which is better?

There’s no single answer. Local vendors win on language support and compliance; international ones usually win on channel breadth. If you sell across many foreign channels, channel count decides it.

Which should I set up before advertising?

A working booking engine and measurement. The rest can follow — I set out the order in the pre-advertising checklist.
