Google Shopping Optimisation | Product Ad Efficiency
The most common misconception in shopping ads is that performance is determined by campaign settings. In reality the product feed largely decides which searches you appear in; the campaign only adjusts what you pay.
Titles are the strongest lever
In shopping ads you cannot choose keywords — Google matches using your product data. So the product title is the equivalent of the keyword list in Search.
A good title is written in the customer’s search language and puts the distinguishing information first: product type, brand, model, relevant attribute. Internal abbreviations and codes do not work in titles. Title work is one of the highest-return interventions on the Merchant Center side.
Product grouping
Managing the whole catalogue in one group lets budget drift to the most-clicked product — which is usually not the most profitable one. Separating products by margin, price range and conversion behaviour makes differentiated bidding possible.
Without that separation the usual picture is this: a few low-margin products eat most of the budget, ROAS looks fine but profit stalls. Splitting the groups makes the problem visible.
Price competition
In shopping ads the user sees prices side by side. That is a fundamental difference from Search: if you are clearly more expensive than a competitor, you get the click but not the sale — so you lose twice.
That is why growing a shopping budget without knowing your price position is risky. Lowering bids in categories where you are not competitive and concentrating on those where you are works better.
Stock and seasonality
Paying for clicks on out-of-stock products is direct waste, so feed-to-stock sync should be checked regularly. With seasonal products, demand swings need to be followed: keeping the same bids on out-of-season products is a quiet loss.
Shopping or PMax
In many accounts today shopping inventory is managed inside Performance Max. PMax gives wider reach but less control; a classic shopping campaign is more transparent but narrower. Which is right depends on the account’s data volume and how much control you want — running both on the same products at once creates conflict.
How do we start? First I review your feed and product groups: which products eat budget, whether titles match search language, where your price sits. I send the findings in priority order. You can reach me from the contact page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use negative keywords in shopping ads?
Yes. Even though you cannot choose keywords, you can add negatives, and this is the most important control in shopping campaigns. Cutting irrelevant searches raises efficiency without losing volume.
Should I advertise every product?
Usually not. Keeping very low-margin, unstable-stock or never-converting products out of the campaign shifts budget toward the profitable side.
Does the product image affect performance?
Directly. Shopping ads are visual; clean images on a white background that show the product clearly get more clicks. Text and watermarks added to images are grounds for disapproval.
How do I work?
Work-hour packages
Tell me about your website and what you need on WhatsApp or by phone; we agree on a work block of somewhere between 5 and 40 hours and I start doing what is needed. What you get is not a calendar window — it is net working hours spent directly on your business. I can use 40 hours working three days straight, or deliberately spread it out and finish it over a year — whatever the work calls for. I do not spend my time estimating how long something will take, I spend it doing the work; every hour I spend has a lasting result on your site. We keep going for as long as you find it useful.
Why not monthly?
Is 40 hours a week?
On a fixed monthly fee both sides are watching the wrong thing: you watch a fixed cost, the other side watches how many more contracts like this they can line up. Working by the hour puts us both in front of the same thing — the real value of the work that got done. I know not having an upfront answer to "how much will this cost in total?" is the natural cost of this model. But instead of paying a fixed fee for months to a setup that is not producing results, you only pay for the qualified time spent on your work — and you see exactly where that time went, start to finish. That is why my clients keep coming back.
