Claude or ChatGPT: Which One for Business Use?

5 min readPublished: Updated:

It depends on the job. If you write long texts, feed in long documents, or do coding and automation, I’d pick Claude. If you need to generate images, you need ChatGPT, because Claude doesn’t produce them. I use Claude and my preference is clearly Claude, but there is one place where ChatGPT earns its spot in my work, and I note it below.

Don’t decide before running the same task through both for a week or two. The free tiers make that possible.

Differences by task

The table reflects the impression of someone who uses both regularly; it is not a measurement. Model versions change fast, so some of these gaps may shrink or reverse within months.

TaskClaudeChatGPT
Reading long documents and codebasesMore comfortable on long, multi-file work. Claude Code has direct file-system accessHas Code Interpreter and Canvas; in my experience harder on large multi-file codebases
Writing long textHolds the tone across a long pieceQuick for drafts and for trying different styles
Generating imagesNo. Per its official help page, it doesn’t make photos or illustrations; it reads and analyzes images you upload and can draw diagrams and charts with HTML/SVG (source)Can generate images
TurkishA bit ahead in formal and long writing, in my viewIn daily use I often can’t tell them apart
Automation and agentsClaude Code and MCP: powerful, but needs command-line comfortCustom GPTs: easier for someone who doesn’t code
EcosystemNarrowerWider; easier to roll out if your team already uses it

Plans and prices

As of October 2026, Claude’s individual and team plans (claude.com/pricing):

  • Free: Sonnet and Haiku models. No Claude Code.
  • Pro: $20 per month billed monthly, or $17 per month billed annually. Includes Opus and Claude Code. Usage is limited in 5-hour sessions, and paid plans also have a weekly limit.
  • Max: from $100 per month, with 5x or 20x Pro’s usage.
  • Team: $20 per seat per month billed annually, $25 billed monthly (2 to 150 users); a premium seat is $100 / $125.

For ChatGPT’s current plans and prices, see chatgpt.com/pricing. I point to the source instead of writing a number that goes stale. If you subscribe from Turkey, the amount can differ by payment route (web or app store); the amount on the checkout screen is what counts.

What happens to your data

According to Claude’s pricing page, model-training is listed as “opt-out” on Free, Pro and Max, meaning the setting is in your hands; on Team and Enterprise your content isn’t used for model training by default (source). If you will upload client data or company documents, read the business plan and its data terms instead of using a personal plan. Do the same check for ChatGPT.

From my own use

An anonymous example: I used Claude Code to automate a weekly ad performance report. It was a multi-step flow that talked to several APIs, wrote files and fixed itself when something failed; for that kind of end-to-end job Claude Code’s approach feels more natural to me.

For short, high-volume variations, such as ten headlines for a campaign, both tools do the job; your own test shows which one you move faster in.

How to choose

  • Mostly writing, long documents, code: Claude. Try the free plan first, then Pro if it helps.
  • You need to generate images: ChatGPT. Claude has no image generation.
  • Tight budget: run the same three tasks on both free tiers and compare, then pay for one.
  • A team will use it: look at which ecosystem the team already lives in (Google Workspace or Microsoft 365) and whose admin and data terms fit your company. One person’s preference isn’t a team decision.
  • New to automation: before picking a tool, read the Agentic AI Guide; which job you automate matters more than the tool.

If the decision is for your team

If you can’t decide whether to set up Claude or ChatGPT for your team, which plan to buy and how to train people, you can hire me for it: a remote, hourly-billed engagement that usually runs from 2 hours to 2 weeks. Details: Enterprise ChatGPT & Claude Setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Claude free?

There is a free plan. As of October 2026 it includes the Sonnet and Haiku models, but not Opus or Claude Code (source). It is enough for everyday questions; with heavy use you will hit the limit.

Can Claude generate images?

No. According to its help page, it doesn’t generate photos or illustrations; it can read images you upload and draw diagrams and charts with HTML/SVG.

What do I lose by moving from ChatGPT to Claude?

Image generation, the custom GPTs you built, and any integrations your team connected to ChatGPT. List them before switching; if none matter to your work, the loss is small.

Does it make sense to use both?

It can; for example long text, documents and automation in Claude, image generation in ChatGPT. I do most of my own work in Claude. Before paying for two subscriptions, use the free tiers to see which job goes where.
