I'm Running Ads But No Customers Come

3 min read19 August 2026

The ads are live, the dashboard shows clicks, the money is going out — and the phone isn’t ringing. I hear this often, and the cause is almost always one of the seven below. Work through them in order, because the order matters: fixing a later item before an earlier one doesn’t help.

1. There’s no measurement, and customers may actually be arriving

This is the most common situation I find. If conversion tracking isn’t set up, or it counts form submissions but not phone calls, you can’t credit the ads for the customers you do get. Confirm that conversion tracking genuinely works first — otherwise you can’t measure the other six.

2. You’re showing on the wrong searches

An ad for “air conditioning repair” can also show to someone searching “how to repair air conditioning yourself”. Open the search terms report and look at the actual queries your ad appeared for. Usually even a first glance shows a meaningful share of budget going to searches that will never become a customer. The fix is negative keyword management.

3. The ad is fine, the landing page isn’t

The click lands and the visitor can’t see what they came for on the first screen: no price, no phone number, no clear statement of what you actually do. Whatever you promised in the ad should be written at the top of the page. Sending everyone to the homepage means sending them back to searching.

4. You’re hard to reach

Is the phone number tappable on mobile? How many fields does the form ask for? Is WhatsApp there? These look like details, but every extra step in getting in touch turns some people away.

5. You’re showing at the wrong time or in the wrong place

An ad that runs while you’re closed gets clicked, the call goes unanswered, and the person goes to a competitor. Showing in a city you don’t serve is pure loss. Location and schedule settings are never reopened after setup in most accounts.

6. Your price doesn’t match the intent

Some searches are looking for the cheapest option. If you’re at the premium end, appearing on those searches means paying for a click that ends with “too expensive”. Stating a price range or your positioning in the ad copy is the cheapest filter there is — it screens people out before you pay for the click.

7. Not enough time has passed

A new campaign spends its first days in a learning phase and doesn’t represent its own performance. I never judge a campaign on its first few days of data — that data isn’t saying anything yet.

Which one is yours? I can go through your account and tick these off one by one. Get in touch.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are clicks but no form submissions, is the problem the ad or the page?

The page. Clicks prove the ad is doing its job. Everything after that belongs to the landing page — conversion rate optimisation addresses exactly this step.

Could competitors be clicking my ads?

It happens, but usually less than people assume. Google filters invalid clicks automatically and credits them back. It’s more productive to eliminate the seven items above before blaming this.

Should I delete the campaign and start again?

Usually no. Rebuilding resets the accumulated learning. Unless the problem is a setup error, fixing the existing campaign gets you there faster.

WHAT YOU CAN ASK FOR

How do I work?
Work-hour packages

Tell me about your website and what you need on WhatsApp or by phone; we agree on a work block of somewhere between 5 and 40 hours and I start doing what is needed. What you get is not a calendar window — it is net working hours spent directly on your business. I can use 40 hours working three days straight, or deliberately spread it out and finish it over a year — whatever the work calls for. I do not spend my time estimating how long something will take, I spend it doing the work; every hour I spend has a lasting result on your site. We keep going for as long as you find it useful.

WORK BLOCKS

Why not monthly?
Is 40 hours a week?

On a fixed monthly fee both sides are watching the wrong thing: you watch a fixed cost, the other side watches how many more contracts like this they can line up. Working by the hour puts us both in front of the same thing — the real value of the work that got done. I know not having an upfront answer to "how much will this cost in total?" is the natural cost of this model. But instead of paying a fixed fee for months to a setup that is not producing results, you only pay for the qualified time spent on your work — and you see exactly where that time went, start to finish. That is why my clients keep coming back.
