Google Business Profile Management | Stand Out on Maps

4 min read29 July 2026Updated: 21 August 2026

A Google Business Profile isn’t a form you fill in once and forget. The category was picked wrong, the holiday hours never got updated, a review from three weeks ago is still unanswered, a competitor posted ten updates in the last month — each one quietly erodes visibility in Maps and “near me” searches. Google Business Profile management keeps the profile continuously accurate and active.

This page is about the ongoing operation of the profile. If you want a broader approach covering all of local SEO together — content, backlinks, review strategy, and map visibility — see Local SEO; this page is the narrow, recurring maintenance of just one piece inside that: the profile itself.

What’s Covered

  • Accuracy of your details. Category, description, hours, phone number, and address get checked. Holiday hours are entered ahead of time — forgetting this is one of the mistakes I see most often.
  • Regular posts. Google’s “Update” feature makes an unused profile go stale over time; a short post every week or two keeps it active.
  • Review management. Every review — positive or negative — gets a timely reply. An unanswered negative review tells a new customer “nobody’s paying attention here.”
  • Flagging fake or bad-faith reviews. Competitor-planted or policy-violating reviews get reported to Google; not every one gets removed, but the process is tracked.
  • Q&A section. Frequently asked questions get answered proactively instead of sitting unanswered.
  • Competitor monitoring. Nearby competitors’ profile activity gets checked regularly — it’s the cheapest way to see what’s actually working.

Who This Makes Sense For

Any business with a physical location that gets found through “near me” searches — restaurants, clinics, salons, auto shops, retail stores. If you’re running a geo-targeted Google Ads campaign, keeping the profile current also supports your ad quality score — the two aren’t independent of each other.

For a single location, monthly maintenance usually takes 1-2 hours. Multiple branches means a separate profile per location — scope grows accordingly.

The Mistake I See Most Often

Setting up the profile and walking away. Everything gets entered correctly at first, then nothing gets touched for months. In that time hours change, new services never get added, reviews pile up unanswered. Google’s algorithm favors an active profile over a dormant one — so “setup is done” actually means “visibility is starting to drop.”

What It Does Not Do

  • It doesn’t guarantee fake reviews get removed. They get flagged; the decision belongs to Google, and not every report is accepted.
  • It’s not ad management. Google Ads campaigns are a separate service — see Google Ads Management if that’s what you need.
  • It doesn’t cover website SEO. For organic visibility beyond the profile itself, SEO Consulting is a separate service.

An Observation From My Own Operation

I’ve seen a consistent pattern over years of running geo-targeted Google Ads campaigns: businesses with a current, active profile show up more often in the “local pack” (the three map results) independent of ad performance itself. So profile maintenance indirectly affects how far your ad budget goes too — separate services, but they feed each other.

You Can Hire Me for This

You can hire me for this: a fixed-scope monthly maintenance service. The first month we audit the profile’s current state and close the gaps; from the second month on it moves into regular operating mode. Write to me from the contact page.

Frequently Asked Questions

I already have a profile — why do I need management?

Existing isn’t enough — it needs to be active. The difference between a profile that exists but hasn’t been touched in months and one that’s updated regularly shows up directly in map rankings.

Do I pay per location?

Generally yes — each location is a separate profile and a separate piece of management work. For multiple locations, I put together a combined scope and give it to you in writing.

A fake review showed up — can you get it removed right away?

Not immediately — it gets reported to Google, but the decision process belongs to them and can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Not every report gets accepted either; if the policy violation isn’t clear-cut, the review can stay up.

How is this different from local SEO?

This page covers only the ongoing maintenance of the Google Business Profile itself. Local SEO is a wider frame — profile, website content, backlinks, and overall local search strategy together. If your profile is already managed and you want a broader local visibility strategy, see Local SEO.

WHAT YOU CAN ASK FOR

How do I work?
Work-hour packages

Tell me about your website and what you need on WhatsApp or by phone; we agree on a work block of somewhere between 5 and 40 hours and I start doing what is needed. What you get is not a calendar window — it is net working hours spent directly on your business. I can use 40 hours working three days straight, or deliberately spread it out and finish it over a year — whatever the work calls for. I do not spend my time estimating how long something will take, I spend it doing the work; every hour I spend has a lasting result on your site. We keep going for as long as you find it useful.

WORK BLOCKS

Why not monthly?
Is 40 hours a week?

On a fixed monthly fee both sides are watching the wrong thing: you watch a fixed cost, the other side watches how many more contracts like this they can line up. Working by the hour puts us both in front of the same thing — the real value of the work that got done. I know not having an upfront answer to "how much will this cost in total?" is the natural cost of this model. But instead of paying a fixed fee for months to a setup that is not producing results, you only pay for the qualified time spent on your work — and you see exactly where that time went, start to finish. That is why my clients keep coming back.
