Google Merchant Center Management | Feed and Approvals

3 min read18 August 2026

Merchant Center is where your products are introduced to Google. Shopping ads and Performance Max are fed from here, so every gap here shows up directly in campaign performance. However good the campaign settings are, an unapproved product never serves.

The silent loss: disapproved products

Products in Merchant Center are approved individually, and disapproved ones quietly stop serving. Because the campaign keeps running, nothing appears broken on screen; those products simply never show.

In audits I regularly find that a meaningful part of the catalogue sits disapproved. The reasons are usually technical: price mismatch, stock data not matching, an image violating the rules, or a required field left empty. Most of these are fixable.

Feed quality

Every field in the feed affects which searches a product appears in. Title is the most decisive: whatever word the customer uses to search should appear in it, not your internal catalogue code.

Category assignment, brand, GTIN and product type also affect matching directly. Left empty, Google classifies the product by guessing, and it usually guesses wrong. On the image side, watermarks, borders and added text are grounds for disapproval.

Price and stock sync

The price in Merchant Center must match the price on the site; when it does not, the product is disapproved. The same applies to stock status. If the feed updates once a day, prices and stock changing during the day can create mismatches.

Advertising an out-of-stock product is direct waste. When feed and stock fall out of sync it can go unnoticed for months, because the campaign appears to run normally.

Policy and account health

Merchant Center has its own policies, and a violation can suspend the entire account rather than individual products. The most common causes are missing return and shipping terms on the site, absent contact details, and an insecure checkout page.

These suspensions are usually resolved with a few fixes on the site, but the process takes time. If the account is suspended, the approach is the same as on the policy violation side: diagnose the cause correctly and document the fix.

How do we start? First I audit your Merchant Center account: how many products are disapproved, which fields are missing, whether sync works. I send the findings in priority order in writing. You can reach me from the contact page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I send the feed via a plugin or manually?

With few products a manual sheet is manageable, but price and stock sync is not sustainable by hand. As the catalogue grows, an automated feed becomes close to mandatory.

How long until a fixed product goes live again?

Re-review usually takes a few days. Avoiding the same mistake matters: in accounts with repeated disapprovals, review times can lengthen.

Can I run shopping ads without Merchant Center?

No. Shopping ads and the product side of PMax depend entirely on the Merchant Center feed. If you sell products, this layer is a precondition for the campaign.
