Ad Scheduling Optimisation | Hours and Days

2 min read18 August 2026

Ad scheduling determines which days and hours a campaign runs. It is a simple setting, but in businesses converting by phone or form it directly makes and loses money.

An unanswered enquiry is a loss

The clearest case is businesses converting by call. An ad shown when nobody answers the phone pays for the click and returns nothing. In call-focused campaigns this is one of the fastest losses to fix.

For form-based businesses it is softer: a form can be filled at any hour. But response speed affects conversion too; if an enquiry arriving at night is answered the next afternoon, part of the loss happens there.

Reading hourly performance

Google Ads reports performance by hour and day. Two things come out of it: when demand concentrates, and when that demand converts.

The two are not always the same. In some accounts clicks peak in the evening while conversions do not; in others conversions concentrate in a narrow lunchtime window. The decision should follow conversions, not clicks.

Turn off or lower bids

Turning off a time slot entirely is a sharp decision. With thin data it can be wrong: declaring “no conversions in this hour” on a few weeks of data is premature.

I usually prefer lowering bids first. That reduces spend without becoming invisible, and data keeps accumulating. Once a persistent pattern is clear, a shut-off decision can follow.

Interaction with smart bidding

Smart bidding strategies already factor in hour and day signals. So aggressive manual scheduling can constrain the algorithm.

Still, manual intervention is always justified on one point: operational reality. The algorithm does not know when your phone is staffed. Not running ads at hours you cannot serve is a decision independent of the bidding strategy.

How do we start? First I map your conversion distribution by hour and day and compare it against your operational capacity. I send the scheduling plan in writing. You can reach me from the contact page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I turn ads off at weekends?

Do not decide without looking at your data. In some sectors weekend research volume rises and converts on Monday; turning off breaks that chain.

How does the time zone setting work?

Scheduling applies in the account’s time zone. If you target across time zones, that distinction has to be accounted for.

How many weeks of data is enough?

Enough to exclude seasonal variation. Making a permanent scheduling decision on one week’s data means mistaking a temporary swing for a rule.

WHAT YOU CAN ASK FOR

How do I work?
Work-hour packages

Tell me about your website and what you need on WhatsApp or by phone; we agree on a work block of somewhere between 5 and 40 hours and I start doing what is needed. What you get is not a calendar window — it is net working hours spent directly on your business. I can use 40 hours working three days straight, or deliberately spread it out and finish it over a year — whatever the work calls for. I do not spend my time estimating how long something will take, I spend it doing the work; every hour I spend has a lasting result on your site. We keep going for as long as you find it useful.

WORK BLOCKS

Why not monthly?
Is 40 hours a week?

On a fixed monthly fee both sides are watching the wrong thing: you watch a fixed cost, the other side watches how many more contracts like this they can line up. Working by the hour puts us both in front of the same thing — the real value of the work that got done. I know not having an upfront answer to "how much will this cost in total?" is the natural cost of this model. But instead of paying a fixed fee for months to a setup that is not producing results, you only pay for the qualified time spent on your work — and you see exactly where that time went, start to finish. That is why my clients keep coming back.
