Google Ads Advertiser Verification | The Document Process
Google requires advertisers to document who they are. When verification is not completed, ads stop after a set period and the account can be suspended. The process is technically simple but is frequently rejected over small inconsistencies.
Why it became mandatory
The purpose is for users to see who placed an ad. Once verification is complete, advertiser information is shown alongside your ads. It is a layer introduced to make fraudulent accounts harder to run.
In practice this is an obligation for legitimate businesses too: if documents are not uploaded or the details do not match, the account stops working.
Which documents are requested
There are usually two layers: a document proving the business exists, and the identity of the person managing the account. On the business side, official records such as tax registration, trade registry or a certificate of activity are accepted. Individual advertisers are asked for identity documents.
Which document is requested varies by account type, country and the category being advertised. Restricted areas such as health and finance may require additional documentation.
The most common rejection cause: inconsistency
In most rejected verifications the document is neither fake nor incomplete — it simply does not match the account. The business name in the Google Ads account must be identical to the legal name on the document. Differences in legal suffixes, trading name versus registered name, or address details all cause rejection.
The second frequent cause is an illegible document: photographed at an angle, cropped at the edges, or low resolution. The whole document must appear flat and clear.
Its relationship to the payment profile
Verification is also cross-checked against the details in the account’s payment profile. If the name in the payment profile differs from the document submitted, the process stalls. Checking the payment profile before submitting documents is faster than fixing it afterwards.
There is another trap in accounts managed through an agency: verification has to be done in the name of the actual account owner. Processes started before clarifying whose name the account is registered under come back rejected.
How do we start? First I check the consistency between your account business details, payment profile and the documents you hold. I send step-by-step instructions on which document to submit and how. You can reach me from the contact page.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does verification take?
Usually a few business days if the documents are consistent. Files that are rejected and resubmitted take longer, which is why getting the first submission right matters.
What happens if I do not complete verification?
When the deadline passes, ads stop serving and the account can be suspended. Unlike a violation-driven suspension this is purely procedural — it resolves once the documents are complete.
Can I verify as a sole trader?
Yes. There is a path for sole traders and individual advertisers; the required document type differs. What matters is that the name in the account matches the name on the document exactly.
