Conversion Optimisation | Turning Clicks Into Customers

3 min read18 August 2026

Conversion optimisation is the work of turning existing traffic into more customers. Every improvement on the advertising side has a ceiling; growing traffic is expensive, while getting more result from the same traffic is usually cheaper.

Where is the problem: campaign or page

Starting optimisation without answering this wastes time. If ads get clicks but conversions do not follow, there are two possibilities: you are bringing the wrong person, or you are bringing the right person and losing them on the page.

The distinction is made by looking at search terms. If incoming searches genuinely relate to what you offer, the problem is on the page. If they are irrelevant, the problem is targeting and the negative keyword side has to be fixed first. Mixing the two and changing the page means testing with the wrong traffic.

What I find most often on landing pages

The ad’s promise does not match the page headline. The user clicks for a specific service and lands on a generic homepage, then has to navigate to find what they came for — most do not.

The second common problem is that it is not clear what to do next. If a page carries several calls to action of equal weight, users do not choose. The third is speed: a page that loads slowly on mobile loses the visitor before the content appears. In that case WordPress speed optimisation becomes conversion work.

Form and contact friction

Forms are where conversion most often stalls. Asking for unnecessary fields lowers completion; questioning which piece of information is genuinely needed for the sale shortens most forms.

If your audience prefers the phone, the number must be tappable on mobile and visible. In sectors where WhatsApp is used, setting that channel up measurably improves both conversion and measurement quality.

No optimisation without measurement

If you cannot see what works, what you are doing is not optimisation but guessing. How many conversions each page, form and channel produces must be measurable separately. Measuring micro steps helps too: people who start a form without finishing, or add to cart and abandon, show you where you lose them.

When testing, change one thing at a time. If you change headline, form and image in the same week, you cannot tell which produced the result.

How do we start? First I use measurement to show where traffic comes from and where it disappears. Then I send the few highest-impact fixes in priority order in writing. You can reach me from the contact page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good conversion rate?

It varies enormously by sector, price range and how you define a conversion; comparing to someone else’s rate is misleading. The meaningful comparison is against your own history.

How much traffic does an A/B test need?

Enough to say the result was not chance. On low-traffic sites a test takes weeks; in that case fixing obvious problems produces results faster than testing.

Will conversion optimisation reduce my ad budget?

Not directly, but you get more from the same budget. When conversion rate rises, cost per conversion falls, which in turn lets you target more broadly at the same goal.
