Survey Design and Analysis | Listen to Your Customers
“We sent our customers a survey but couldn’t get anything useful out of it” is something I hear often. Usually the problem isn’t the analysis — it’s the question itself: the wrong thing got asked, or the open-ended answers were left unread. This service covers the whole process, from question design to answer analysis.
How It Works
- The goal gets clarified. “Measure customer satisfaction” is too broad; something concrete like “did satisfaction change among customers using the new feature versus before” produces a much more usable survey.
- Questions get designed. Non-leading, each measuring one thing, kept short. Every question has to answer “what will we do with this response” — a question whose answer won’t be actionable gets cut.
- Distribution gets set up. Email, WhatsApp, or a web form — depending on the channel you already use with customers.
- Responses get collected and analyzed. Numeric questions become charts; open-ended answers get sorted into themes — “10 people complained about price, 6 about delivery time,” for example.
- A report you can act on gets delivered. Not raw data — a summary that says “this finding shows this, you might consider changing that.”
The Mistake I See Most Often
Leaving open-ended answers unread. Numeric questions (a 1-5 rating, for example) turn into a chart easily, so most analysis stops there. But the most valuable information is usually in the open-ended answers — the free text responding to “why did you give this rating” stays completely untapped if it never gets read and sorted into themes. Reading hundreds of responses by hand takes time, which is why this step so often gets skipped; I automate it.
Who This Makes Sense For
Any business measuring customer satisfaction, gathering feedback before a product/feature decision, or tracking employee satisfaction regularly.
What It Does Not Do
- It doesn’t send the survey for you. Distribution goes through your channel or your system; I handle design and analysis.
- It doesn’t guarantee sample size. How many people respond depends on your list and how it’s sent — growing that is a separate conversation.
- It doesn’t make investment or strategic decisions. I present the finding; you make the call.
You Can Hire Me for This
You can hire me for this: remote, billed hourly. Question design and analysis can also be taken separately — if you already have a survey, you can hire me just to analyze the open-ended responses.

Frequently Asked Questions
We already have a survey — can I just get the analysis?
Yes, that’s possible. I look at your existing questions and we clarify the scope of the analysis together.
How many responses do we need?
Depends on your goal — a few dozen responses can be enough for a general trend; if you want to break results into subgroups and compare them, you need more. We discuss this at the design stage.
How do you analyze open-ended answers?
Responses get read and grouped into similar themes, and how many people raised each theme gets counted. The result is a summary saying “here are the three most common topics.”
Which channel or language should I send the survey in?
The channel your customers already use gets the highest response rate — email if you have a list, WhatsApp if that’s how you communicate. We decide this together in the first conversation.
