Long Video to Shorts | Content Repurposing

3 min read29 July 2026

If you’ve recorded a podcast episode, a webinar, or a long interview, that video usually has 10-20 short, self-contained, meaningful moments hidden inside it. Finding them one by one, cutting them, adding subtitles, and reformatting each for every platform takes hours by hand — which is why most businesses publish long-form content once and leave it at that.

Video repurposing is the process of scanning that long-form content, automatically finding the attention-grabbing moments, adding subtitles and titles, and delivering them ready for Shorts/Reels/TikTok in vertical format. On Fiverr this is now its own category, called “Video Repurposing.”

How the process works

We scan the long video (30 minutes, an hour, or longer) with AI tools to identify which moments are engaging and contain a complete idea. From these candidates, we pick the best 10-20 together, then crop each one into vertical format and add subtitles and an attention-grabbing title.

Automatic selection can sometimes miss context — which is why I personally review the final selection and editing, rather than leaving it to blind automation.

One video, lots of content = a steady low-cost asset

Getting weeks’ worth of shareable material from a single recording session eases the pressure of producing content regularly. For businesses that produce podcasts or regular video content in particular, this spreads production cost across a much larger volume of content.

Every clip can be edited to point back to the original video (the full episode, the full recording) — short-form content becomes a tool that drives traffic to the long-form piece.

Where to be careful

An automatically selected “attention-grabbing moment” can sometimes be misread once it’s cut from its context — especially on sensitive or controversial topics. That’s why I check every clip against its context before publishing.

Subtitle accuracy is another thing worth checking; automatic subtitles sometimes need correcting, especially on videos with technical terms or proper nouns.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of videos work best for this?

Talk-heavy long-form content — podcasts, interviews, webinars, training videos, recorded talks — works best. Purely visual or musical content is harder for “attention-grabbing moment” detection to handle.

How many clips should I aim for?

It depends on the video’s length and how rich the content is; a 30-60 minute video usually makes 10-20 clips a reasonable target. More than that usually means a drop in quality.

Are subtitles automatic, or checked by hand?

They’re generated automatically, but I review them before delivery, especially checking for errors in proper nouns and technical terms.

Should I get this as a one-off, or as a recurring service?

If you produce video/podcast content regularly, setting it up as a recurring service is more efficient — every new piece automatically enters the pipeline. It can also be taken as a one-off for a single video.
