YouTube Ads Specialist | Video Campaign Management
YouTube ads are a subset of Google Ads, but they call for a different discipline. In search ads, intent is already clear — the user is searching for something. On YouTube it’s not: you show up while someone’s watching a video, so the first few seconds matter far more than they do in search.
I’ve been managing Google Ads for 20 years, and YouTube has been a significant part of that. The most common mistake I see is a video campaign built with search-ad logic: a video that opens with a sales pitch and talks about the brand for minutes, run as a video ad. The viewer skips within 5 seconds.
Choosing a format: skippable, non-skippable, short-form
YouTube has several ad formats: skippable in-stream video, non-skippable short ads, discovery ads, and vertical formats built for Shorts. Each serves a different goal — skippable formats suit conversion, non-skippable formats suit reach and brand awareness.
Which format works for you depends on your budget and goal. Trying every format at once with a small budget means you don’t collect meaningful data on any of them. In the preliminary call, we clarify the goal first, then narrow down the format around it.
The first-5-seconds rule
In skippable ads, viewers can skip after 5 seconds. That’s why saving your brand or message for the end doesn’t work on YouTube — this mistake usually comes from agencies bringing a TV-commercial narrative style to the format.
Before setup, we review your existing video together: is there a clear hook in the first few seconds, does the brand show up early. If the video isn’t ready, I often find that a short, cheap revision does more for the campaign than shooting a brand-new video.
Targeting and measurement
YouTube targeting is built around demographics, interests, topics, placements, and custom segments. Custom segments based on search history in particular perform far better than broad demographic targeting.
On the measurement side, a GA4 and Google Ads connection is essential — without it, you see view counts but not how many people actually came to your site afterward. I usually include this setup as part of the scope, because without it we can’t properly evaluate the campaign.
How do we start? First, we have a free 20–30 minute preliminary call. We talk about what you want and what’s realistic. If it’s a fit, I send the scope and price in writing, then we begin. You can reach me via the contact page.
Service Summary

YouTube usage — and demand for YouTube ads along with it — keeps growing. YouTube ads can serve everything from brand awareness to conversion goals.
Ads run on YouTube can be video ads as well as display ads.
As a Google Ads specialist, I believe search ads should always be backed up with display and video ads.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you handle video production?
No, video shooting isn’t my job. I handle campaign setup, targeting, measurement, and optimization. If you have a video, we start with that; if not, I can point you toward a simple, low-cost solution, but I don’t take on production myself.
Are YouTube ads more expensive than Google Search?
Cost per click is generally lower than search ads, because intent is weaker. But that cheaper click doesn’t mean a customer as ready to buy as a search click. The right comparison isn’t click cost — it’s cost per result achieved.
Does YouTube advertising make sense on a small budget?
It depends. A small budget aimed at brand awareness spreads thin and leaves little impact. A small budget aimed at a narrow audience with a clear conversion goal can work well. In the preliminary call, we discuss what’s realistic for your budget.
After how many views does my ad start producing results?
I wouldn’t give a fixed number — it depends on the product, the offer, and the video. I treat the first few weeks as a learning period, and I recommend not making an early decision to shut things down during that time. It takes time for the data to become meaningful.
