Pre-Purchase Research Report for Major Decisions

3 min read29 July 2026

Before making a major purchase — a car, a house, equipment, or a franchise — most people end up deciding based on what the seller tells them, a handful of forum comments, or a friend’s recommendation. Yet these are usually decisions with years of impact, hard to walk back once made.

In this service, I do unbiased research before a major purchase: I compare the options available, dig up costs that aren’t obvious upfront, and prepare the questions you need to ask the seller or the other side. I don’t take a commission from any seller — the report only serves you.

Why Being Unbiased Matters

Dealers, real estate agents, and franchise sellers are interested in selling their own product — that’s natural and expected, but it doesn’t always line up with your interests. Because I don’t take a commission from either side, my recommendation only looks at your situation.

That doesn’t mean saying “don’t buy this.” It means “here are the pros and cons of these options, and this one looks like a better fit for your situation.” The final decision is always yours.

Hidden Costs and Details That Are Easy to Miss

In a major purchase, the sticker price is only part of the story. A car’s real cost changes with fuel and maintenance, a house’s real cost changes with dues and taxes, a franchise’s real cost changes with royalties and supply obligations. I research these line items and lay out the total cost.

I also flag clauses that can cause trouble down the road — contract terms, warranty coverage, cancellation conditions — the kind of thing that’s usually noticed after signing, not before.

A List of Questions to Ask

The report doesn’t just give you information — it gives you concrete questions to ask the other side during the conversation. Asking the right question is often more effective than the best research, because it forces the seller to be clear too.

You can take this list with you into the meeting; you don’t need any technical knowledge, just the willingness to ask.

How do we start? First, we have a free 20-30 minute initial call. We talk about what you want and what’s realistic. If it looks like a good fit, I send you the scope and price in writing, then we begin. You can reach me through the contact page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of purchases do you work on?

I work on large, complex decisions — vehicles, homes/property, business equipment, franchises. For small, everyday purchases, this service’s cost doesn’t pay off — it’s meant for major, one-off decisions.

Do you get involved in the decision itself, or just deliver a report?

The standard scope is report delivery. If you want, we can add a follow-up call where we go through the report together and I answer your questions — that’s an optional add-on you can specify in the scope.

Do you recommend a specific brand or seller?

No, I don’t take a commission from any seller or brand, and I don’t recommend any. What I give you is comparative data and analysis; you decide which option to choose.

How long does the report take to prepare?

It depends on the complexity of the topic, usually a few days to a week. If you’re on a tight decision timeline, mention it during the initial call and I’ll prioritize accordingly.
