Turn Your Excel Into a Web App | Vibe Coding

3 min read29 July 2026

Almost every business has one: that Excel file that’s grown over the years, packed with formulas, and that everyone’s broken in some corner. Stock tracking, an order list, a form the field team fills out — whatever it is, the bigger the file gets, the more fragile it becomes, and a single wrong cell can break the whole sheet.

The approach known as “vibe coding” is a direct answer to exactly this problem: using AI-assisted code generation, it’s possible to turn that Excel sheet into a simple web app much faster and cheaper than a traditional software project. Your team stops breaking formulas and instead enters data through a clean interface, from a phone or a computer.

Why This Is Possible Now

A transformation like this used to require hiring a software team and running a project that took months — for most small businesses, the cost simply didn’t make sense. AI-assisted code generation tools (like Claude Code, Cowork) have cut that time dramatically. The fact that “Vibe Coding” is now listed as its own category on Fiverr shows this demand has become a concrete market.

This is exactly how I work myself; I use the same tools while reviewing your Excel file.

How the Process Works

First, I review your existing Excel: which formulas are actually being used, which fields are for data entry, which rules already exist (“this field can’t be left blank,” for example) but were never written down. I turn this into a simple app design, then build the app using AI-assisted coding.

I don’t expect any coding knowledge from you, and I’m not a large software team either — the process moves lighter and faster than traditional software development.

Where to Draw the Line

There’s no rule that every Excel sheet needs to become an app. A simple sheet used by one person that rarely changes should usually just stay in Excel. This transformation shows its real value in situations where multiple people use the same file, errors come up often, or mobile access is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this work without knowing how to code?

In the “vibe coding” approach, AI tools generate most of the code, while I guide and test it. You don’t need to know how to code, and I don’t need to write every line by hand either — that’s why the process is fast and more affordable.

How reliable does the app end up being — as reliable as Excel?

When set up properly, it ends up more reliable, because the risk of broken formulas disappears and data-entry rules are enforced by the app itself. But like any software, it needs testing and a bit of a fix cycle for small bugs.

Do I have to give up Excel completely?

No. Most of the time the app replaces Excel for daily use, but if you’d like, data export in Excel format can still be available, and you can keep using Excel for reporting.

Does this need maintenance?

Yes, like any software, small updates come up over time. We can handle this either as one-off small jobs or as a monthly maintenance arrangement.
