Old Photo Restoration and Colorization
Almost every home has a few family photos somewhere that have faded, torn, stained, or been folded over time. These photos are usually one of a kind — once lost, they’re gone for good. Restoration repairs them, making them both durable and shareable again.
Using AI-assisted tools, I repair scratches and tears, sharpen the image, and colorize where needed, then bring the result up to print-ready resolution. At every step, I’m careful to preserve the original character — the goal isn’t to make the photo look artificial, but to restore it while staying true to what it actually was.
What Kinds of Damage Can Be Repaired?
The most common problems: fading and color shift, scratches and tears, moisture stains, fold marks, and blurriness from low resolution. In most cases, the bulk of this can be repaired; depending on how severe the damage is, I assess upfront how much the result can realistically improve and tell you honestly.
For some very heavily damaged photos (for example, if a large part of the face is gone), a full repair may not be possible. In that case, I set expectations clearly from the start rather than making empty promises.
Colorizing Black and White: How Realistic Is It?
Colorization relies on AI’s prediction — details like skin tone or clothing color come from a plausible guess, not from actual color data. Because of that, I present colorization as an interpretation that makes the photo feel more alive, not as “the real thing.”
If you know actual color information (for example, “that dress was actually navy blue”), let me know and I’ll adjust the result accordingly. Family memory is always more reliable than an AI’s guess.
Print-Ready Delivery
Once the repair is complete, I deliver the photo at both its original size and at an enlarged, print-ready resolution. You can put it in a frame, or into a memory book.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to send you the physical photo?
No, a high-resolution scan or a clear photo of it is enough. If you can’t scan it yourself, we can combine this with my archive digitization service.
How long does restoring one photo take?
It depends on the extent of the damage; a simple fade/sharpen job takes a few days, while a heavily damaged, highly detailed repair can take one to two weeks. If you have a batch job (for example, an entire archive), we plan the timeline accordingly.
Can you fully reconstruct a missing face or a missing section?
Partially. AI can fill in a missing area with a plausible guess, but that’s a prediction, not the real image. I’m upfront about that difference from the start — I never present the result as “real.”
Do you also animate photos (turn them into short video clips)?
If requested, I can also use tools that turn a static photo into a short animated clip. This is more of an emotional extra — it’s not part of standard restoration, it’s discussed separately.
