Put Your Monthly Report on Autopilot | Report Automation

Monthly Report Automation

If you spend days at the start of every month preparing the same report — collecting the data, cleaning it, dropping it into a table, turning it into a presentation — there’s a good chance this can be automated. If the report repeats every month with the same logic and different numbers, that’s exactly the scenario where automation pays off.

Setup takes a one-time effort: we work out the source data, the calculation logic, and the output format together and build a template. After that, every month, once the data is updated, the report regenerates on its own or with a single trigger.

The Setup-vs-Subscription Logic

This work usually moves in two stages: first building the template (a one-time effort), then ongoing monthly upkeep and occasional small adjustments (optional, recurring support). Keeping the two separate clarifies both pricing and expectations.

Some clients run the system entirely on their own after setup; others want regular monitoring and support. Both are fine — we figure out which fits you in the initial call.

Clarifying What Gets Automated and What Stays Manual

Data collection, cleaning, calculation, and table/presentation generation can usually be fully automated. Interpretation (“why did sales drop this month”) requires human judgment — I don’t hand that to automation; it stays with whoever reads the report.

A well-built automation prepares the data in a way that makes interpretation easier — highlighting trends, deviations, and notable points — but it doesn’t produce the decision or the interpretation itself.

A Report Can Turn Into a Presentation Too

An Excel/Sheets table is enough for some teams; some boards expect a PowerPoint deck. In the second case, I can add a layer that automatically converts the report into slides — I cover this on my Excel-to-Presentation page.

We settle in the initial call which output format fits your meeting and decision-making process.

How do we start? First, a free 20–30 minute initial call. We talk about what you want and what’s realistic. If it’s a fit, I send the scope and price in writing, then we start. Reach out via the contact page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does setup take?

It depends on how many data sources you have and how complex the report is; simple single-source reports get built faster, reports that merge multiple sources take longer. In the initial call I look at your current report and give you a timeframe.

What happens if my data source (accounting software, CRM) changes?

If the source system changes, the data-pulling part of the automation may need to be rebuilt. That’s not starting from scratch, but it does take some extra work — if you’re planning a system change, letting me know ahead of time makes this easier.

Will I notice if the report comes out wrong?

At setup, I add simple checks that flag unexpected data so a wrong report doesn’t get produced silently. Even so, especially in the first few months, I recommend reviewing the report by hand too — full trust builds over time.

Do I pay monthly, or is it a one-time fee?

Setup is a one-time fee; ongoing support, if you want it, is discussed separately as a smaller, recurring monthly scope. I don’t impose a mandatory subscription — you can also take the setup and run it yourself.
