# Restaurant Website and Online Ordering System

[Oğuz Erol](https://oguzerol.com/en/about-me/) | 8 min read

Kebab shops, pizzerias, pide and lahmacun places, burger joints… Most restaurants that deliver get the bulk of their orders through food delivery apps. The app brings customers, but it takes a commission on every order. And that customer belongs to the app, not to you: the next time they open it, your competitors are the first thing they see.

I build restaurants **their own online ordering site**. Customers browse your menu on your site, fill their basket and place the order directly with you. With no platform in between, there is no per-order platform commission. Then I use Google and Meta ads to bring hungry people in your area straight to that site.

So this is one job: **an ordering site + the advertising that brings customers to it.** You can also take either part on its own.

## Why your own ordering site matters

**The commission stays in your pocket.** The cut a platform takes on an app order stays with you when the order comes through your own site. Even if you pass part of that difference back to the customer as a discount, you still come out ahead. And because the customer gets the same food for less, next time they come to you directly.

**The customer becomes yours.** You see who orders, how often and what. You can send a campaign to someone who hasn’t ordered in a while or set a discount for your regulars. On a platform, that information stays with the platform.

**You set the price and the shop window.** On a platform you appear in the same list as hundreds of other restaurants, in a race to the bottom on discounts. On your own site there is only you: your photos, your story, your offers.

**You don’t have to leave the platforms.** This isn’t an either/or choice. The platform can keep bringing new customers. The goal is for a customer who has tried you once to place their second and third order on your own site. Even a small card in the bag saying “order from our site for a discount”, with a QR code, starts that shift.

## What the ordering site includes

- **Digital menu** — split into categories (closed pide, open pide, wraps, plates, drinks, desserts and so on), with photos and prices. Options such as portion size and extra toppings live inside each item.
- **Basket and checkout** — customers order in a few taps from their phone’s browser, with no app to install.
- **Pickup vs delivery** — each option can carry its own discount. For example, a bigger discount for pickup, since there’s no courier cost.
- **Delivery-area check** — before ordering, the customer sees whether you deliver to their neighbourhood. No more orders from addresses you don’t serve that you then have to cancel.
- **Payment options** — cash or card on delivery.
- **Customer accounts** — the customer saves their address once and doesn’t retype it next time. Sign-in with a Google account takes one tap.
- **Multilingual menu** — if you’re in a tourist area, the menu can also open in English, German, Arabic, Russian and other languages.
- **Fast and mobile-friendly** — most orders come from phones, so the site is built to load fast on a phone. A slow ordering page sends the customer straight back to the app.
- **Visibility on Google** — menu pages are built so Google can read them. An order link is added to your [Google Business Profile](https://oguzerol.com/en/google-business-profile-management/), so someone who finds you on Maps can order from your site in one tap.

If you want to take orders at the table, I can also set up a [QR code ordering system](https://oguzerol.com/en/qr-code-ordering-system/), either as part of this or separately. If you’d rather take orders over WhatsApp, I walk through the flow step by step on the [restaurant WhatsApp ordering system](https://oguzerol.com/en/restaurant-whatsapp-ordering-system/) page.

## Building the site isn’t enough: bringing customers to it

An ordering site that’s built and then left alone usually stays quiet. If customers don’t know it exists, they open the app out of habit. That’s why I also manage the advertising side:

- **Google Search ads** — you appear for searches like “pide delivery near me”, “pizza near me” or “lahmacun takeaway”, only in the area you deliver to and only during the hours you take orders. Details on the [Restaurant Google Ads](https://oguzerol.com/en/restaurant/) page.
- **Google Maps** — [Google Maps ads](https://oguzerol.com/en/google-maps-ads/) and business profile work to stand out in “near me” searches on the map.
- **Instagram and Facebook ads** — food is a visual product. [Meta ads](https://oguzerol.com/en/meta-ads-management/) reach people in your area at lunch and dinner time with appetising images.
- **Which ad brought how many orders** — [conversion tracking](https://oguzerol.com/en/ad-conversion-setup/) is set up. The question “we spent this much on ads, how many orders did it bring?” gets answered with numbers, not guesses.

There’s no need for a separate landing page for the ads: whoever clicks the ad lands right on your menu and orders from there. That’s also the advantage of having one person run both the site and the ads. You can see where visitors from the ads get stuck on the site, and the site gets fixed accordingly.

## Example: a pide restaurant in Moda, Kadıköy

The site I built for [Pide Sun](https://pidesun.com/), a Bafra-style pide restaurant in Moda, Kadıköy (Istanbul), has a menu of more than 90 items, a basket and customer accounts. Pickup orders get 15% off and delivery orders 10% off (as of October 2026), there’s a neighbourhood-level delivery-area check, and the menu opens in 7 languages. Alongside the site, I also manage their Google and Meta ads.

## Who this is for

- **Kebab shops, pizzerias, pide and lahmacun places, döner and burger shops, home-style kitchens and dessert shops** that deliver.
- Businesses that are starting to feel the weight of delivery-app commissions.
- Restaurants with a steady base of local customers who order regularly and want to keep those customers for themselves.
- Pickup-only businesses that are tired of taking orders over the phone.

If you don’t deliver and your goal is to fill tables, a showcase website plus [restaurant ads](https://oguzerol.com/en/restaurant/) may be a better starting point than an ordering site. We work that out together in the first call.

## How we work

1. **Initial call.** We talk about your menu, your delivery area, where your orders come from today and what you want to achieve.
2. **Written proposal.** I send the scope and price in writing. What’s included and what isn’t is clear from the start.
3. **Setup.** The menu, photos, prices, delivery areas and discounts go into the system. You place test orders and sign off.
4. **Launch and ads.** The site goes live, the Google Business Profile link is added, and the ads and conversion tracking are switched on.

**How do we start?** Write to me via the [contact page](https://oguzerol.com/en/contact/) or on WhatsApp, and let’s set a time for the initial call.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Do I have to leave the food delivery apps?

No. For most restaurants the right path is to use both: new customers keep coming from the app, and repeat customers move to your own site. Over time you see in numbers how much of your ordering comes through your own site.

### Do I pay commission on orders from my own site?

The per-order commission that delivery apps take doesn’t exist on your own site. The order is paid directly to you. I quote the setup and management fee in writing after the initial call.

### How will customers find my site?

Three ways: a card and QR code in the bag (moves your existing customers to the site), the order link on your Google Business Profile (people who find you on Maps), and Google and Meta ads targeted to your area (people who don’t know you yet).

### Is it easy to change the menu and prices?

Yes. Adding an item, updating a price or temporarily switching off something that’s sold out is done from the admin panel. You can do it yourself or send it to me.

### I already have a website. Do I need a new one?

Not always. If your site runs on WordPress, the ordering system can often be added to it. I look at your site first and tell you which option makes more sense. My general approach to WordPress is on the [WordPress Web Design](https://oguzerol.com/en/wordpress-web-design/) page.

### Can I take just the site or just the ads?

Yes. They work best together, because I can see where customers from the ads get stuck on the site and fix it. But we can also work on the ordering site alone or on ad management alone.

WHAT YOU CAN ASK FOR

## How do I work?
Work-hour packages

Tell me about your business and what you need on WhatsApp or by phone; we agree on **a work block of somewhere between 5 and 40 hours** and I start doing what is needed. What you get is not a calendar window — it is net working hours spent directly on your business. I can use 40 hours working three days straight, or deliberately spread it out and finish it over a year — whatever the work calls for. I do not spend my time estimating how long something will take, I spend it doing the work; every hour I spend leaves a lasting result in your business. We keep going for as long as you find it useful.

WORK BLOCKS

## Why not monthly?
Is 40 hours a week?

On a fixed monthly fee both sides are watching the wrong thing: you watch a fixed cost, the other side watches how many more contracts like this they can line up. Working by the hour puts us both in front of the same thing — the real value of the work that got done. I know not having an upfront answer to "how much will this cost in total?" is the natural cost of this model. But instead of paying a fixed fee for months to a setup that is not producing results, you only pay for the qualified time spent on your work — and you see exactly where that time went, start to finish. That is why my clients keep coming back.
