I build a web application that turns a Google Sheets threshold into an incident with an owner, a current status and a clear closing rule. Your sheet can remain the data source while the team works from an exception queue. ## Example: Branch A exceeds its daily limit The illustration is a fictional workflow. Its rule is **daily spending greater than €5,000**. A previous value of €4,800 creates no incident. When Branch A reaches €5,200, the application opens **B-12** and assigns it to Ece. These figures describe an internal expense total, not a bank transaction or an advertising account. At the next check, the value is still €5,200. The application updates the observation time on B-12 instead of emailing the same warning again. Ece can acknowledge the incident so colleagues know who is investigating it. Acknowledgement does not approve the expense or change the source value. ## Define what makes an incident new I establish the period, monitored field and comparison before designing notifications. In this example exactly €5,000 does not cross the threshold. A blank cell is missing data, not zero spending. The source timestamp matters too: yesterday’s total must not quietly become today’s fresh result. We also decide what happens when the value returns below the limit. The incident could close, await confirmation, or require a period of normal readings. A new day can create a new incident without erasing the previous day’s history. If a value repeatedly crosses the boundary, the agreed reset rule controls when another notification is justified. ## When the existing sheet is enough Start with Sheets [edit notifications](https://support.google.com/docs/answer/91588?hl=en): you can receive emails for other people’s changes or form submissions. Some work and school accounts also offer [conditional notifications](https://support.google.com/docs/answer/14099459?hl=en) for selected cell changes. External-source and [IMPORTRANGE](https://oguzerol.com/en/importrange-alternative-data-portal/) updates do not trigger them; emails may be delayed or combined. Recipient support also needs checking. If a basic email rule is sufficient, keep it in Sheets. Apps Script triggers are another option where appropriate. A custom screen becomes useful for different owners, repeat-warning controls, acknowledgement and closure history. For external values, [Sheets API imports](https://oguzerol.com/en/google-sheets-import-json-api/) and alert evaluation need a coordinated schedule. A separate app does not remove source quotas. ## Making the scope testable I start with a de-identified example of your current file or screen and the roles of the people using it. The written scope defines where each field comes from, who can change it and where the result goes. I test repeated checks against an open B-12, missing source timestamps and a value exactly at the boundary. Ece should not receive another branch’s restricted expense details. The scope also covers exports, the backup approach and who handles failures. We review the first version against one real workflow before planning further connections. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### Does every cell change send an alert? No. This design tracks an incident rather than broadcasting all edits. Changes update the open record. We separately define which change, delay or reassignment warrants another notification. ### Can our team change the thresholds? I can provide an authorised rule editor. Each incident retains the rule that opened it, so changing tomorrow’s threshold does not silently rewrite yesterday’s interpretation. ### What happens if an email cannot be delivered? The incident and its notification result are separate records. A failed attempt stays visible and can be retried. Sending an email is also separate from the owner’s acknowledgement or resolution of the issue. ## Discuss your workflow For a related workflow, see [Automatically Combine Excel Files into One App](https://oguzerol.com/en/automatically-combine-excel-files/). Work-hour packages Tell me about your business and what you need on WhatsApp or by phone; we agree on **a work block of somewhere between 5 and 40 hours** and I start doing what is needed. What you get is not a calendar window — it is net working hours spent directly on your business. I can use 40 hours working three days straight, or deliberately spread it out and finish it over a year — whatever the work calls for. I do not spend my time estimating how long something will take, I spend it doing the work; every hour I spend leaves a lasting result in your business. We keep going for as long as you find it useful. WORK BLOCKS ## Why not monthly? Is 40 hours a week? On a fixed monthly fee both sides are watching the wrong thing: you watch a fixed cost, the other side watches how many more contracts like this they can line up. Working by the hour puts us both in front of the same thing — the real value of the work that got done. I know not having an upfront answer to "how much will this cost in total?" is the natural cost of this model. But instead of paying a fixed fee for months to a setup that is not producing results, you only pay for the qualified time spent on your work — and you see exactly where that time went, start to finish. That is why my clients keep coming back. 5hours300€ + VAT60€ per hour[Choose this block](https://wa.me/905496546489?text=Hi%2C%20I%27d%20like%20info%20about%20the%205-hour%20work%20block.) 10hours500€ + VAT50€ per hour[Choose this block](https://wa.me/905496546489?text=Hi%2C%20I%27d%20like%20info%20about%20the%2010-hour%20work%20block.) 20hours800€ + VAT40€ per hour[Choose this block](https://wa.me/905496546489?text=Hi%2C%20I%27d%20like%20info%20about%20the%2020-hour%20work%20block.) 40hours1,400€ + VAT35€ per hour[Choose this block](https://wa.me/905496546489?text=Hi%2C%20I%27d%20like%20info%20about%20the%2040-hour%20work%20block.)
