# Google Business Profile Management | Stand Out on Maps

[Oğuz Erol](https://oguzerol.com/en/about-me/) | 5 min read

“Business Profile manager” can mean two different things, so let me separate them first. **The first is the manager role inside the profile:** if you want to give someone access, you add them as a Manager under People and access (steps below). **The second is a service:** someone who keeps the profile’s hours, posts, reviews and Q&A in order on your behalf. The rest of this page is about the second; the first section is for people who manage the profile themselves or want to delegate access.

## How to add a manager: Owner vs Manager

Google Business Profile has two roles ([Google help page](https://support.google.com/business/answer/3403100?hl=en), as of October 2026):

- **Owner:** full control. Can add and remove users and delete the profile. A profile has one primary owner.
- **Manager:** almost the same access as an owner; the difference is that a manager can’t add or remove users and can’t delete the profile.

Steps:

1. Go to your profile at business.google.com.
2. Open More → Business Profile settings → People and access.
3. Choose Add and enter the person’s email address.
4. Under Access, pick Manager (or Owner) and send the invitation.

The invited person needs their own Google Account. You don’t need to share your password, and you shouldn’t: sharing a password makes access hard to take back, while a role can be removed whenever you like. Google Groups can’t be added as owner or manager. When working with an agency or outside person, my advice is to add them as a **Manager** and keep primary ownership yourself, so the profile always stays yours.

## Why the profile matters in local results

Google says local results rely mostly on three factors: relevance, distance and prominence. Prominence includes review count and positive ratings; businesses with complete, accurate information are more likely to appear in local results, and wrong information can keep a profile from showing for relevant searches. Google also states that you can’t ask for or pay for a better local ranking ([source](https://support.google.com/business/answer/7091?hl=en), as of October 2026). So any offer that sells ranking as something you can buy is misleading you; what you control is keeping details accurate and replying to reviews.

## What monthly management covers

- **Accuracy of your details.** Category, description, hours, phone number and address are checked. Holiday hours are entered ahead of time; forgetting this is one of the mistakes I see most often.
- **Posts.** Short updates are published regularly.
- **Review management.** Every review, positive or negative, gets a timely reply. An unanswered negative review tells a new customer nobody is paying attention.
- **Flagging fake or bad-faith reviews.** Reviews that violate the policy are reported to Google and the process is followed up. The decision is Google’s, and not every report is accepted.
- **Q&A.** Frequently asked questions are answered ahead of time.
- **Competitor monitoring.** What nearby competitors’ profiles are doing gets checked regularly.

In the first month I audit the profile’s current state and close the gaps; from the second month it moves into regular operating mode.

## Manage it yourself, or get outside help?

If you have a single location, your hours rarely change, and you can read and answer reviews yourself, managing the profile on your own is often enough; the list above works as a checklist. Outside help makes sense when:

- **You have several locations:** each is a separate profile, and the workload grows with the count.
- **Reviews come in heavily:** unanswered ones pile up.
- **You have no time:** the profile was set up but nobody has looked at it in months.
- **You run ads:** with a [geo-targeted Google Ads campaign](https://oguzerol.com/en/geographic-targeting-optimization/), a wrong opening time or phone number wastes the call that the ad generated.

If you have no physical location and customers don’t find you through “near me” searches, this service isn’t meaningful for you.

## The mistake I see most often

**Setting up the profile and walking away.** Everything is entered correctly at first, then nothing is touched for months. In that time hours change, new services never get added, reviews pile up. “Setup is done” doesn’t mean the profile’s upkeep is done.

## What this service does not do

- **It doesn’t guarantee fake reviews are removed.** They’re flagged; the decision belongs to Google.
- **It’s not ad management.** Google Ads campaigns are a separate service: [Google Ads Management](https://oguzerol.com/en/google-ads-management/).
- **It doesn’t cover website SEO.** For organic visibility beyond the profile, [SEO Consulting](https://oguzerol.com/en/seo-consulting/) is a separate service.
- **It isn’t all of local SEO.** For the broader approach covering content, backlinks and review strategy together, see [Local SEO](https://oguzerol.com/en/local-seo/); this page is the one piece inside it, the profile’s regular upkeep.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How do I add a manager to my profile, and what can they do?

Invite them by email under People and access in the profile settings. A manager can edit details and reply to reviews but can’t add or remove users or delete the profile. Steps are above.

### I already have a profile, so why do I need management?

Having one isn’t enough; the details need to be current. A wrong opening time or an old phone number gives customers their first impression before you do.

### How is pricing handled if I have several locations?

Each location is a separate profile and a separate piece of upkeep. For multiple locations I put together a combined scope and give it to you in writing.

### A fake review showed up. Can you get it removed right away?

Not right away. It’s reported to Google, and the decision and its timing are Google’s; if the policy violation isn’t clear, the review can stay.

### How is this different from local SEO?

This page covers only the regular upkeep of the profile itself. Local SEO also covers website content, backlinks and the overall local search strategy.

WHAT YOU CAN ASK FOR

## How do I work?
Work-hour packages

Tell me about your business and what you need on WhatsApp or by phone; we agree on **a work block of somewhere between 5 and 40 hours** and I start doing what is needed. What you get is not a calendar window — it is net working hours spent directly on your business. I can use 40 hours working three days straight, or deliberately spread it out and finish it over a year — whatever the work calls for. I do not spend my time estimating how long something will take, I spend it doing the work; every hour I spend leaves a lasting result in your business. We keep going for as long as you find it useful.

WORK BLOCKS

## Why not monthly?
Is 40 hours a week?

On a fixed monthly fee both sides are watching the wrong thing: you watch a fixed cost, the other side watches how many more contracts like this they can line up. Working by the hour puts us both in front of the same thing — the real value of the work that got done. I know not having an upfront answer to "how much will this cost in total?" is the natural cost of this model. But instead of paying a fixed fee for months to a setup that is not producing results, you only pay for the qualified time spent on your work — and you see exactly where that time went, start to finish. That is why my clients keep coming back.
