# Reducing Cost Per Click | Lowering CPC for Good

[Oğuz Erol](https://oguzerol.com/en/about-me/) | 3 min read

**For:** businesses comparing click costs with actual acquisition costs. **Deliverables:** spend diagnosis, change recommendations and qualified-lead comparisons. Scope is agreed in writing and work uses an hours package. [Contact](https://oguzerol.com/en/contact/).

The easiest way to lower cost per click is cutting your bid — and it’s also the worst way. Cost drops, but so do volume and position, and your cost per conversion often stays the same or gets worse.

The real goal is qualified demand and sales. Average CPC can increase while acquisition cost falls; I assess both together.

## Raising Quality Score

[Quality Score](https://oguzerol.com/en/what-is-quality-score/) is diagnostic, not an auction input. A higher score does not guarantee a lower CPC for the same position. Checked on 15 October 2026: [Google documentation](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/6167118?hl=en).

Three things set the score: expected click-through rate, keyword-to-copy match, and landing page experience. The third is the most neglected and the highest-return to fix; [landing page optimisation](https://oguzerol.com/en/landing-page-optimization/) becomes a direct cost issue.

## Narrowing ad groups

Broad, mixed ad groups produce both low relevance and high cost. Narrow keyword clusters sharing the same intent can show copy that genuinely matches them.

I separate groups when intent and messaging actually differ. Narrowing structure alone does not guarantee a better score or lower costs; excessive segmentation can fragment the data.

## Cutting wasted searches

Spend on irrelevant searches drags your average cost up because those clicks never convert. [Negative keyword](https://oguzerol.com/en/negative-keyword-management/) discipline cuts that loss.

Tightening match type does the same job, reducing the expensive, irrelevant traffic that unprotected broad match brings in. Done together, these two show fast results.

## Cutting targeting waste

If [geographic targeting](https://oguzerol.com/en/geographic-targeting-optimization/) is set wrong, money flows to regions you don’t serve. If [scheduling](https://oguzerol.com/en/ad-scheduling-optimization/) is wrong, spend happens at hours nobody can answer.

In accounts running Display, placement cleanup makes a big difference: accidental clicks on irrelevant apps and sites distort the average.

## Avoiding competition is a strategy too

On some keywords a competitor’s customer value is higher than yours, and winning that auction puts you at a loss. Rather than pushing there, shifting toward narrower, higher-intent, cheaper searches lowers total cost.

That decision should be made with [auction insights](https://oguzerol.com/en/auction-insights/) data — not gut feel.

**How do we start?** First I map your cost distribution and show which line is pulling the average up. I send priority interventions in writing. You can reach me from the [contact page](https://oguzerol.com/en/contact/).

## What does the diagnostic and acceptance record contain?

These are method examples, not client results or performance promises.

| Situation | Check | Deliverable / acceptance |
| --- | --- | --- |
| CPC increased | Query/device/location mix and lead quality | Decision alongside acquisition cost |
| More cheap traffic | Irrelevant queries and unqualified enquiries | Cheap clicks are not success |

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Is lowering the bid ever genuinely harmful?

Not always; lowering a bid on a keyword running far above target cost is correct. But used as a general cost-cutting method, it hurts volume and learning.

### How much reduction should I expect?

It depends on the account’s current state. An account with low Quality Score and a weak negative list sees clear improvement; an already well-managed account has limited room left.

### Can I lower CPC while using smart bidding?

Smart bidding does not necessarily target the cheapest click. Better measurement and relevance may improve business outcomes; I do not guarantee a CPC reduction.

WHAT YOU CAN ASK FOR

## How do I work?
Work-hour packages

Tell me about your business and what you need on WhatsApp or by phone; we agree on **a work block of somewhere between 5 and 40 hours** and I start doing what is needed. What you get is not a calendar window — it is net working hours spent directly on your business. I can use 40 hours working three days straight, or deliberately spread it out and finish it over a year — whatever the work calls for. I do not spend my time estimating how long something will take, I spend it doing the work; every hour I spend leaves a lasting result in your business. We keep going for as long as you find it useful.

WORK BLOCKS

## Why not monthly?
Is 40 hours a week?

On a fixed monthly fee both sides are watching the wrong thing: you watch a fixed cost, the other side watches how many more contracts like this they can line up. Working by the hour puts us both in front of the same thing — the real value of the work that got done. I know not having an upfront answer to "how much will this cost in total?" is the natural cost of this model. But instead of paying a fixed fee for months to a setup that is not producing results, you only pay for the qualified time spent on your work — and you see exactly where that time went, start to finish. That is why my clients keep coming back.
