# Meta Ads Specialist

[Oğuz Erol](https://oguzerol.com/en/about-me/) | 6 min read

Meta Ads is the system where Facebook and Instagram ads are managed in one place. I set up the ads and their measurement, design the audience and creative tests, and report the results. Producing images and video isn’t my job; I tell you what to test, and you or your designer produce it. This page is for people who want to work with me and for people who want to know what to look for in a Meta ads specialist.

## What if measurement is broken?

The most common problem I see in Meta ads isn’t technical, it’s measurement: the pixel is missing pieces, conversion events are mapped wrong, or the Conversions API isn’t active. Meta’s algorithm learns from the conversion signal you give it; if the signal is broken, optimization is broken too. Fixing it usually starts not with changing the campaign, but with fixing the measurement.

The pixel sends an event from the visitor’s browser. The Conversions API sends it from your server, CRM or app to Meta ([as of October 2026, Meta developer documentation](https://developers.facebook.com/docs/marketing-api/conversions-api/)). Because browser-sent measurement can be hit by cookie restrictions and blockers, you use both and verify that events are matched and deduplicated correctly. Skip that, and you may shut down a campaign you think is losing money when it’s actually profitable. That’s why I start every job by verifying the pixel and Conversions API setup.

## What’s the difference between Facebook and Instagram?

The two platforms share the same system but behave differently: a creative that works on Instagram can flop on Facebook, and an audience that converts on Facebook can stay silent on Instagram. On a small budget, keeping both in one campaign and letting Meta distribute is usually more efficient; once budget grows and the two platforms’ performance diverges, splitting them makes sense.

## Audience: broad or narrow?

In a narrow niche on a small budget, opening up broad targeting right away can burn the budget during the learning phase. My order:

1. Build a lookalike from your existing customer list.
2. Retarget people who’ve shown behavior on your site.
3. Open up broad targeting only once you’ve built enough conversion volume.

There’s no fixed number for “enough”; Meta asks for a certain number of conversions before an ad set exits the learning phase, and the conditions are explained on Meta’s [learning phase help page](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/112167992830700). While it’s learning, don’t change settings often; every change makes it harder to read what worked.

## Why does creative do more than targeting?

As targeting options have narrowed, the thing that differentiates results has become the image and copy. That’s why regular creative testing shapes results more than campaign structure does. When you test, change one thing at a time (the image, the first line, or the call to action), or you won’t know which one worked. I design what gets tested, why a given variant wins, and what to try in the next round.

## What should you look for in a Meta ads specialist?

The questions I’d suggest:

- **Who will own the ad account?** The Business Manager and ad account should be opened in your name, with the specialist added as an authorized user. When you stop working together, the data, pixel and audiences stay with you.
- **How do they verify measurement?** “I’ll install the pixel” isn’t enough; ask them to show that events appear correctly in Meta.
- **What do they report?** Not spend and impressions, but the results that reach your business (forms, messages, sales) and their cost.
- **What will they do in the first 30 days?** Expect a clear plan.
- **How long is the contract?** Prefer starting short over a long commitment.
- **Who will produce the creative?** Settle this upfront; producing creative isn’t my job.

As a general tendency, a single brand with a single account is served faster and more economically by an independent specialist, while multi-brand setups or ones that need constant creative production suit an agency. That’s a starting point, not a rule.

**How do we start?** First we talk about what you want and what’s realistic. If it makes sense, we agree the scope and choose a work-hour block of 5, 10, 20 or 40 hours (no fixed monthly fee, no contract), then we begin. Reach me via the [contact page](https://oguzerol.com/en/contact/).

## Other ad platforms

Which platform beyond Facebook works for you depends on your audience: for a visually driven brand, see [Instagram Ads Expert](https://oguzerol.com/en/instagram-ads-specialist/); for B2B sales, [LinkedIn Ads Specialist](https://oguzerol.com/en/linkedin-ads-specialist/); to reach a younger audience, [TikTok Ads Specialist](https://oguzerol.com/en/tiktok-ads-specialist/). If you want to reach people at the moment they search for something, you need search ads, not Meta: [Google Ads expert](https://oguzerol.com/en/google-ads-expert/).

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Meta Ads or Google Ads?

If someone types their need into a search (locksmith, boiler service), Google’s search ad meets that intent. On Meta, the person isn’t searching; they see your ad while scrolling the feed. So Meta is strong for sparking interest, retargeting and visual products; where demand already exists, Google is usually more direct. They aren’t substitutes, they do different jobs.

### How long does Conversions API setup take?

It depends on your site’s infrastructure. With a suitable plugin on WordPress it usually takes half a day; on a custom-built site, with your developer, a few days. After setup I always test it and measure match quality; setting it up isn’t enough, you need to confirm it’s working right.

### How much budget should I start with?

A fixed number wouldn’t be honest; it depends on your product price and conversion rate. The logic: Meta needs enough conversions to exit the learning phase, and the budget has to be enough to collect them. First set a target cost per conversion, then work the budget out from that.

### When will I see results?

I can’t give a fixed number of days; the system is in the learning phase until it has collected enough conversions, and how long that takes depends on budget and conversion volume. During that time, shutting a campaign down on day two because “it didn’t work,” or changing settings every day, is the most common and most expensive mistake. Evaluate using the data of an ad set that has completed learning.

WHAT YOU CAN ASK FOR

## How do I work?
Work-hour packages

Tell me about your business and what you need on WhatsApp or by phone; we agree on **a work block of somewhere between 5 and 40 hours** and I start doing what is needed. What you get is not a calendar window — it is net working hours spent directly on your business. I can use 40 hours working three days straight, or deliberately spread it out and finish it over a year — whatever the work calls for. I do not spend my time estimating how long something will take, I spend it doing the work; every hour I spend leaves a lasting result in your business. We keep going for as long as you find it useful.

WORK BLOCKS

## Why not monthly?
Is 40 hours a week?

On a fixed monthly fee both sides are watching the wrong thing: you watch a fixed cost, the other side watches how many more contracts like this they can line up. Working by the hour puts us both in front of the same thing — the real value of the work that got done. I know not having an upfront answer to "how much will this cost in total?" is the natural cost of this model. But instead of paying a fixed fee for months to a setup that is not producing results, you only pay for the qualified time spent on your work — and you see exactly where that time went, start to finish. That is why my clients keep coming back.
